Q. No. 1: Discuss the role and contribution of the Urdu Press in the creation of Pakistan. Explain with reference to the newspapers of Maulana Muhammad Ali Johar, Maulana Zafar Ali Khan, and Hameed Nizami in particular.
Q. No. 2: Write a detailed note on PEMRA and highlight the features of the PEMRA Ordinance 2002.
Q. No. 3: What are the major challenges faced by print media in Pakistan? Suggest measures to cope with these challenges.
Q. No. 4: Media has the potential to strengthen solidarity among communities. How can Pakistani media contribute to bringing integration, solidarity, and harmony among different and isolated communities of Pakistan?
Q. No. 5: What is News? Define the structure of News; also describe the characteristics of a good news story.
Q. No. 6: Define Editorial. How does an Editorial reflect the policy of a newspaper? Do you think in the present age of information, newspaper editorials have any impact on society?
Q. No. 7: Evaluate critically the performance of Private TV Channels in Pakistan. Do you think Electronic Media in Pakistan is fulfilling its responsibility?

Q. No. 1: These days the focus of media is more on hype and entertainment. Enumerate reasons for this increasingly unhealthy trend. Suggest workable solutions to make media socially more responsible.
Q. No. 2: Our advertisements seldom reflect our cultural ethos. Why are ethics not being followed in Pakistani advertisements? Examine various ethical issues involved in advertising with examples.
Q. No. 3: Shannon and Weaver developed a mechanical and mathematical model of communication, known as the “Shannon and Weaver Model of Communication”. Explain the model in terms of its important concepts: Source-Message-Channel-Receiver-Noise and Redundancy.
Q. No. 4: What are the major barriers to communication? What is encoding and decoding of a message? What strategies do you suggest to overcome these communication barriers?
Q. No. 5: What are the principles of Effective Communication? How can effective communication be the key to success? For effective communication, listening is very important; what is the difference between listening and hearing and how does it impact communication?
Q. No. 6: What is Development Support Communication (DSC)? What types of media forms and traditional media are used in DSC, and what are the benefits of using traditional media?
Q. No. 7: What are the prospects and challenges of Public Relations (PR) in Pakistan? What are the common features of advertising, PR, and propaganda, and what differentiates them from each other?

  • i) Theory of “Two-Step Flow of Communication”
  • ii) Advertising as the lifeblood of media
  • iii) “Bad publicity is better than no publicity”
  • iv) Importance of research in Advertising and Public Relations
