Benedict Anderson’s definition of nationalism as an “imagined political community” resonates with Muhammad Iqbal’s vision of a unified and vibrant national identity. Iqbal viewed nationalism as a dynamic and inclusive force. He believed that Islam was not only a religion but also a comprehensive worldview capable of accommodating diverse cultures and traditions. His nationalism was rooted in Islamic values but also engaged with modern Western ideas.
Iqbal emphasized that Muslims should transcend their sectarian and regional differences and unite as one nation. He was influenced by Western thinkers such as Friedrich Nietzsche, Henri Bergson, and Oswald Spengler, incorporating ideas of individualism, creativity, and cultural evolution into his thought.
He criticized Hindu nationalism as exclusive and oppressive, arguing that it marginalized minority communities. In contrast, Iqbal’s nationalism promoted inclusiveness, justice, and equality. His vision aimed at creating a harmonious and unified society where diversity is respected and unity is achieved.

Q.9
Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions given at the end: (15 Marks)
Every day we experience one of the wonders of the world around us without even realizing it. It is not the complexity of television or modern transport. The real wonder is our ability to make sounds with our mouths and communicate ideas and thoughts to others. In other words, it is our ability to use language.
This ability distinguishes humans from animals. Some animals also have special abilities. For example, bats use sound to locate insects, and birds navigate long distances using natural signs. Humans, however, have developed a unique ability to communicate through speech.
Apart from speech, humans also use body language to express emotions such as happiness, anger, or sadness. Similarly, animals also use body language, such as showing aggression or submission through physical gestures.
Questions:
  1. What does language enable humans to do besides making sounds?
  2. Why do we take this ability for granted?
  3. How do animals and birds use sounds in their lives?
  4. What is a common feature of body language in humans and animals?
  5. Suggest a suitable title for the passage.
